NICK WEBB’S latest knockout performance has got him noticed.

And manager Scott Welch is hoping it now paves the way to bigger and better things for the Hove-based heavyweight.

Webb stretched his perfect record to 12 wins with an impressive second round stoppage win over Ante Verunica on the Sky-televised Matchroom/Anthony Joshua show a week ago Saturday.

It was tenth KO win of his career and former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Welch, from Brighton, says interest in a fighter who has been swerved by the likes of Nathan Gorman is on the up.

Welch said: “There’s quite a few people coming out of the woodwork now.

“The way he won has put him in the spotlight. It was a sensational knockout but Nick also has a great boxing brain.

“He likes to think about what he is doing and how he moves.

“He is capable of doing something and he is capable of winning the British title.

“He has been in with the likes of Dereck Chisora and Dillian Whyte in sparring and has handled them all in the gym. We know on his night he is very, very good.

“It was the first time he’s been on Eddie’s show (Hearn) and hopefully he sees something in him. I think he’ll feature him again, which is good for us and for Nick. We just have to see now and that has put him on the map.

“He’s 12-0 with ten knockouts, so he has a good record.

“We need a couple more fights as he hadn’t boxed for months and he’ll be ready.”

Welch is promising a sensational night of amateur boxing for a great cause on Thursday February 22.

The Brighton and Hove team will meet the combined might of a Royal Marines and Royal Navy on a show at the Metropole Hotel, Brighton.

Welch is UK chairman of WBC Cares, the charitable arm of the World Boxing Council, and is involved with a number of initiatives across the country involving programmes tackling mental health, knife crime and homelessness.

The Brighton show will feature a special exhibition from former SAS (Special Air Service) members.

Welch said: “We are helping the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, helping guys with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and other problems.

“It’s for a great cause but it is also going to be a great night.

“The might of the military is going to be there as well as Brighton and Hove team and a few other select boxers.”
