Luke Wright insists Sussex can end their Edgbaston jinx in today's Twenty20 finals.
The county have a miserable record at the Birmingham venue. Their last Championship win was in 1982 and they have only ever won five one-day games there with just one victory since 1993.
Wright believes that poor record will mean nothing when they line up against Kent Spitfires for the right to meet Lancashire or Gloucestershire in the final.
He said: "We've just got to remember everything we've done well so far in Twenty20 this season. I don't think our record there will be a factor at all, it is certainly not something the players are thinking about at all."
Wright says a more positive approach, particularly with the bat, has been the cornerstone of their success this season which has taken them to finals day for the first time and the chance to play in front of a 20,000 crowd, including more than 1,600 Sussex supporters.
Wright himself has scored 349 runs in the competition and his efforts have been backed up by the likes of Murray Goodwin (264) and skipper Chris Adams (214).
He added: "If you look at our side you can't understand how we've done so well in one-day cricket and not so well in Twenty20.
"The biggest thing we wanted to do when we planned this season was trying to play without fear. In other years we've had too many theories and worried too much about the little bits.
"This year we just said Let's go out and express ourselves and enjoy it' especially the batting, which was the discipline we hadn't managed so well before."
With Matt Prior released to play for Sussex and Andrew Flintoff and James Anderson in Lancashire's squad, there could be some heavyweight personal battles if the two old rivals reach the final.
Wright got a confidence boost at Liverpool this week when Flintoff sought him out to congratulate him on his selection in England's provisional 30-man squad for next month's World Cup.
He added: "Some people have been comparing me to him which is ridiculous. I'm starting off in the game and just trying to emulate him."
