ALBION boss Chris Hughton wants to speed up his Premier League attacking options.
He expects record signing Jose Izquierdo to inject pace – but Hughton is still after more and it will be a while before he can call upon Sam Baldock.
A work permit hearing tomorrow is the final obstacle to Colombian winger Izquierdo’s £13.5 million move from Brugge.
Hughton told The Argus: “What he has given his previous club is pace and goals. If I look at where we are and the players we have got, we need a contribution from the wide ones.
“Probably with the two we have up front (Glenn Murray and Tomer Hemed), pace is more so in the wide areas.
“We hope at some stage that can change, in a more central position, but he’s a good player and he will give us pace and hopefully goals.”
Albion’s interest in FC Zurich’s prolific Ghanaian striker Raphael Dwamena is ongoing.
Baldock meanwhile, remains some way from a return to action after missing the whole of pre-season.
Hughton said: “He is not one at this moment that’s going to be close. He had minor surgery on his calf in the summer. We were never sure how long it was going to take.
“We hoped it was going to be sooner, but at this moment we still anticipate it being a fair period of time.”
Albion’s Carabao Cup second round tie against League Two Barnet has been confirmed for next Tuesday at the Amex (7.45pm).
