ALBION are prepared to break their transfer record again to land Danish international midfielder Thomas Delaney from Werder Bremen.
The Seagulls have been tracking the 25-year-old since his time with FC Copenhagen and remain interested, despite Bremen’s resistance to sell.
Delaney only joined the German Bundesliga club in January after nine years at Copenhagen.
Bremen have no desire to cash in but Delaney is understood to be eager for a crack at the Premier League.
The Seagulls made No.10 Pascal Gross their first signing of the summer from relegated Bundesliga outfit Ingolstadt.
They are ready to return to Germany to strengthen their midfield options for their first season in the top flight.
Albion broke their transfer record by signing Australia international goalkeeper Maty Ryan from Valencia for around £5 million.
They would have to pay a lot more for Delaney, who is of Irish-American descent and has four years left on his contract.
Everton were linked earlier in the year and he has enhanced his reputation with four goals in 13 games for Bremen. He has also been capped by Denmark 16 times.
The Argus revealed on Thursday that Albion had cooled their interest in Aaron Mooy.
The Australia midfield colleague of Ryan completed a club record £10 million move today to Huddersfield, where he was on loan last season from Manchester City.
The Seagulls have been monitoring Delaney’s progress for two years and he has been ahead of Mooy on their target list.
Meanwhile, Finnish international Niki Maenpaa, Albion’s No.2 goalkeeper for the past two seasons, is expected to sign a new contract in the next few days, which will trigger a loan move to Portsmouth or Wigan for Christian Walton.
