Shane Duffy has vowed to boost Albion’s flagging goal tally.
The record signing is keen to contribute by scoring from defence as well as helping keep clean sheets.
Duffy was on target four times for former club Backburn Rovers last season and twice this season before joining the Seagulls for around £3.5 million.
He went close with a header from a corner at Burton last Saturday. John Keeley, the ex-Albion No.1 and Blackburn goalkeeping coach, also highlighted his shooting power from long range in a recent interview with The Argus.
The central dedfender’s partner Lewis Dunk was Albion’s leading marksman two seasons ago and Duffy believes they can both chip in after three goals in the last five games for Chris Hughton’s side.
He said: “I should have scored a lot more last season. I had more chances than most of our strikers last year. I had another chance on Saturday, which I was disappointed to not take, but I think they will come.
“I always try to score as many goals as I can, and I know Lewis does as well. So I want to try to beat last year’s target. I should have got double figures last season if I’m being harsh on myself.
“If I keep getting into the right areas, then I will have one season where I get more goals than people expect. It’s a big thing that I’m trying to improve in my game.””
Albion aim for a third clean sheet in a row in the Championship against Barnsley at the Amex today.
Duffy, meanwhile, has been recalled to the Republic of Ireland squad for World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Moldova next month.
The 24-year-old missed out last time due to a ban for a red card in the Euro finals in France in the summer.
