Fiona Bigwood became Sussex's second medallist at the Rio Olympics after claiming silver in the team dressage.
Bigwood, from Horsham, scored 74.342 on Orthilia as Great Britain finished on 77.951 behind Germany who took gold with 82.577.
Britain were in danger of slipping into third place until a superb final round from Charlotte Dujardin of 83.025.
Bigwood - who wears an eye patch after damaging nerves in a fall two years ago - was ranked 16th in the individual standings meaning she has qualified for the individual final on Monday.
