Steve Scott has revealed he felt "guilty" after winning Olympic bronze.
Scott, from Battle, defeated compatriot Tim Kneale to make the podium in the men’s double trap in Deodoro yesterday.
The 31-year-old’s perfect score of 30 eclipsed Kneale’s 28 to secure Team GB their second shooting medal of Rio 2016 after Ed Ling’s trap bronze.
The two good friends embraced following the end of the tense competition and Scott admits he was concious not to celebrate too exuberantly.
Scott said: “Both of us put a tremendous amount of hard work and effort into this, just getting here alone, never mind shooting off for a medal.
“It is very, very emotional. There is a little part of me that wanted him to win as well.
“I wanted to make the final and give myself a chance. I know I’ve got the ability to win.
“In terms of expectations, whether I came first or last, the important thing was to give it my all.
“I was shooting off for bronze. Not only that, I was shooting off against my team-mate. Maybe that helped me relax a little.
“There was a part of me that felt a bit guilty, and I didn’t want to rub it in a team-mate’s face.’’
