Maccabi Tel Aviv are trying to lure Albion striker Tomer Hemed back to Israel.
But their attempt is doomed to failure, according to an Argus source.
Maccabi's interest in Hemed has been leaked to media outlets in his home country.
The Argus source in Israel said: "Maccabi, led by sporting director Jordi Cruyff, have a lot of money to spend.
"They are doing everything they can to get him back but it's never going to happen."
Hemed started his career with Tel Aviv's rivals Maccabi Haifa before spells in Spain with Mallorca and Almeria.
The 29-year-old Israeli international centre-forward top scored for Albion last season with 17 goals after he was signed from Almeria for around £1 million.
Albion are still trying to add to their options up front after releasing Bobby Zamora at the end of last season and on-loan James Wilson's return to Manchester United.
Glenn Murray has rejoined the club on a season-long loan from Bournemouth.
