More players are set to leave Albion as Chris Hughton assesses the squad for next season.
Bobby Zamora, Gordon Greer, Inigo Calderon, Andrew Crofts and Adam Chicksen have already been confirmed as departures when their contracts expire at the end of June.
They could be joined by most of the players loaned out by Hughton during the season.
Rohan Ince, Jake Forster-Caskey, Glen Rea, Elvis Manu and Chris O'Grady are unlikely to play much of a part in the manager's bid to assemble a squad capable of making amends for missing out narrowly on promotion.
Goalkeeper Christian Walton is expected to be loaned out again to gain more first team experience.
Ince, Forster-Caskey and Rea are all products, to varying extents, of Albion's youth system.
The Seagulls will therefore seek compensation for their investment in developing the players, either via transfer fees or deals structured with additional clauses such as appearance-related payments and sell-on percentages.
In the cases of Manu and O'Grady, Albion will probably find themselves out-of-pocket.
They also have a decision to make about Danny Holla as he enters the last 12 months of his contract. The 28-year-old Dutch midfielder played for just 11 minutes in the Championship this season.
ROHAN INCE (midfielder) The rangey 23-year-old has gradually lost his way since Oscar Garcia converted the former Chelsea prospect from a centre-half into a defensive midfielder.
His game time decreased, first under Sami Hyypia, then Hughton.
Beram Kayal and Dale Stephens have dominated in central midfield in Hughton's preferred 4-4-2 formation, leaving Ince as something of a square peg for a round hole, with question marks over his distribution.
Since signing a new contract last September until June 2018, Ince has been on loan to Fulham where he failed to make an impact under Slavisa Jokanovic.
JAKE FORSTER-CASKEY (midfielder) Another who had his best season under Oscar, when the club was in turmoil following Gus Poyet's departure and the Spaniard turned to youth to plug gaps in the squad.
He was part of a three-man midfield in the systems used by Oscar and Hyypia. Forster-Caskey, less-suited to Hughton's style, spent most of the season on loan to MK Dons.
They like him and played him regularly, but the ex-England under-21 international could not help them survive in the Championship.
Forster-Caskey, just turned 22 and entering the final year of his contract, is set to continue his career in Buckinghamshire or elsewhere.
GLEN REA (defender) Southend are sniffing around the Brighton-born Republic of Ireland under-21 international, who is back from loan spells with both them and Luton Town.
Shrimpers boss Phil Brown revealed in January that he wanted to offer Rea a two-and-a-half-year deal.
Hughton ironically blooded Rea against Southend in the Capital One Cup at the start of last season.
He will be looking externally for a fourth central defender after releasing Greer, so Rea appears surplus to requirements.
ELVIS MANU (attacker, above) The one blot on Albion's otherwise excellent transfer business last summer.
Bought from Feyenoord for £1.5 million and given a three-year contract, the enigmatic Dutch youngster has not settled and has not started a game for the Seagulls in the Championship.
Capable of playing wide or through the middle, Manu is yet to exhibit the potential which earned him appearances in the Champions League and Europa League back in Holland.
In January, in an interview with a Dutch paper, Manu said he had made the "wrong choice" signing for Albion and is in an unhappy marriage.
It got worse after that. Manu was axed from the squad at Huddersfield, where he had an unsuccessful stint on loan, due to an "internal disciplinary matter".
CHRIS O'GRADY (striker) The purchase of O'Grady from Barnsley for around £500,000, in the wake of Leo Ulloa's move to Leicester, epitomised Albion's suspect recruitment two summers ago.
Nottingham-born O'Grady, 30, spent the whole of last season on loan to Forest, scoring twice in 21 appearances.
Loaned out the previous season to Sheffield United, O'Grady still has a year left on his contract.
The robust centre-forward has not kicked a ball for Albion for ten months and is unlikely to again.
CHRISTIAN WALTON (goalkeeper) Retaining Casper Ankergren as a third senior keeper for another year gives Albion scope to send Walton out on loan again to broaden his education following spells this season with Bury and home town club Plymouth Argyle.
Walton's recent inactivity has cost him his place in the England under-21 squad.
