Liam Rosenior wants to keep “one of the best left-backs in the Championship” on the sidelines.
Rosenior is expected to start against Sheffield Wednesday tonight, despite Gaeten Bong’s recovery from a thigh injury.
Asked about increased competition for places, he said: “Brilliant! I love it.
“Gaetan was probably the best left-back in the Championship before he got injured. That shows the strength of the squad we have got.
“He was back kicking everyone like normal again so Bongy is back! That is something you need in the Championship. That athleticism he has got, that pace, his aggression.
“He is one of the best left-backs outside the Premier League and we are delighted to have him back.”
Wednesday recall deep-lying midfielder Sam Hutchinson as they look to bounce back from an unfortunate 1-0 home defeat to neighbours Rotherham on Saturday.
They could make five changes but playmaker Fernando Forestieri is still suspended.
Rosenior warned: “There is nothing better having lost a game than having another in three days’ time. They will be very motivated.”
