Albion have handed first competitive starts to Glen Rea, Niki Maenpaa and Liam Rosenior at Southend tonight.
The Finnish goalkeeper and experienced right-back come into the side for the first round of the Capital One Cup as two of eight changes.
Rea, the Republic of Ireland under-21 international, gets his big chance in the centre of defence alongside Gordon Greer.
Defenders Greer and Gaetan Bong remain in the side from the 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the league.
Kazenga LuaLua also retains his place as boss Chris Hughton otherwise rings the changes.
Albion will play in a 4-1-4-1 set-up with Jake Forster-Casey operating off target man Chris O’Grady.
Albion: Maenpaa; Rosenior, Greer, Rea, Bong; Calderon, Holla, Ince, LuaLua; Forster-Caskey; O'Grady. Subs: Ankergren, Bruno, Chicksen, Kayal, March, Baldock, Hemed.
