Albion striker Bas Savage has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

He misses Oldham's visit on Saturday and the trip to Cheltenham a week later with a knee injury sustained in the early stages of the 2-1 defeat at Swansea.

A scan has confirmed Savage suffered a medial ligament strain, which will sideline him for four to six weeks.

It is a blow for Albion, because Savage, previously goal-shy, has scored six times in an unbroken run of 15 games since his February move from Gillingham.

He was also the only Seagull to have found the net in ten matches until Alex Revell was on target at Swansea.

Boss Dean Wilkins admitted: "Bas has made a difference to us.

"His goal record has been good since joining us and his goals have also been invaluable."

Revell could now be partnered up front against Oldham by Jake Robinson, although Nathan Elder and Joe Gatting may also come into contention depending on the formation Wilkins decides to play.

Albion still need a point to be mathematically assured of League One survival, while Oldham are clinging onto a play-off place on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Paul Reid has been hit by a fresh injury setback, wrecking his bid to make a comeback before the end of the season.

The versatile Australian damaged ankle ligaments during a training session at Falmer yesterday.

Reid has been out of action since suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury at Carlisle in September.
