Doug Loft claimed today Albion were "robbed" of another away result at Tranmere.
A 2-1 defeat at Prenton Park ended the Seagulls' five-match unbeaten run on their travels. A 76th-minute equaliser by young sub Craig Curran and Chris Greenacre's injury-time penalty after Joel Lynch brought him down stole the points for Rovers.
Loft, whose cross was deflected into his own net by Ian Goodison to give Albion an early lead, said: "We should have won. In the first-half we played really well and I think everyone feels robbed. We worked hard as a team, created chances and could have scored a few goals but we didn't. That is how it goes."
Loft, playing in the advanced position of the midfield diamond, had the consolation of pressing his claims for a new contract.
Boss Dean Wilkins kept faith with him following the dismal 2-0 defeat at home to Doncaster on Saturday and the former Hastings youngster responded with a positive display.
"I feel I have been doing well in the reserves," Loft said. "It was hard against Doncaster because we didn't play well but I did allright this time and played a part in the goal.
"I am a lot happier with my game. I have worked a lot over the last five months. I feel I am a better player and obviously the gaffer does. I would love a new deal and hopefully I will get one."
Loft is one of 15 players bidding for a new contract at the end of the season and Wilkins has urged him to keep up the good work in Albion's four remaining matches, starting at home to Bradford on Saturday.
"We have seen at reserve level more of a calmness about his game," Wilkins said. "What has been lacking is taking that into a first team game. Hopefully he is going to start doing that more regularly now."
Was referee Anthony Bates right to award Tranmere an injury-time a penalty?
