Albion are poised to re-sign Arsenal loan defender Joe O'Cearuill for a third and final month.

He has agreed to stay and the paperwork will be completed before Saturday's trip to Blackpool.

O'Cearuill's second month on loan expired with last Saturday's 1-1 draw at Crewe.

He was unavailable for that match because he spent last week in Madeira playing in a tournament for the Republic of Ireland under-21s.

O'Cearuill has made six starts and two substitute appearances since joining the Seagulls at the beginning of January.

The majority were at rightback but he featured at centre- half in his last two outings against Gillingham and Bristol City when Joel Lynch was injured. Manager Dean Wilkins said: "He regards that as his best position and I think his performances there were better than at right-back.

"Sometimes when you get asked to play in a different position to your normal one the biggest obstacle to overcome is a mental one, whether you see it is a problem before you step onto the pitch or you can play there comfortably."

The deadline for loan signings is ten days away and Wilkins still wants to strengthen his mid-table squad.

"I think we would be foolish to actually stop looking," he said. "You could bring somebody in on loan which ends up being a permanent deal."

French fullback Zoumana Bakayogo, yet to make an appearance since his loan move from Millwall, is back in training after ankle trouble.

Joe Gatting has also resumed training following a foot injury which ruled him out of the attack at Crewe.

Blackpool will move to within a point and a place of the play-off zone, with a game in hand, if they beat Bournemouth at home tonight.
