Elliott Bennett is on the brink of rejoining Albion on loan from Norwich.
The Seagulls' popular former winger is poised to move to the Amex initially for a month, The Argus understands.
David Burke, Albion's head of football, has cut short a holiday in an attempt to seal the deal.
If all goes to plan Bennett will be signed in time to be available for Tuesday's home game against Wigan.
Boss Sami Hyypia is desperate to add thrust to his struggling side in the final third.
Bennett is out of favour at Norwich and out of contract at Carrow Road at the end of next season.
The prospect of him re-signing for Albion was revealed by Norwich boss Neil Adams after their 2-1 home win tonight against Bolton, who missed the chance to drop the Seagulls into the relegation zone.
Bennett joined Norwich in the summer of 2011 after helping Albion win the League One title.
He was a big hit at Carrow Road before seeing his 2013-14 season ruined by injury.
He has not started a league match this term since the opening day defeat at Wolves.
The former Wolves youngster initially joined Albion under Russell Slade five years ago and made 88 League One starts for the club, mostly under Gus Poyet's management.
