Albion's Championship promotion rivals Nottingham Forest have sacked Billy Davies.
The Scot has lost his job following Saturday's 5-0 defeat by East Midlands neighbours Derby County, which stretched Forest's decline to eight matches without a win.
They are currently seventh, a point and a place above Albion who have a game in hand.
Neil Warnock, who guided Notts County to victory over the Seagulls in the second tier play-off final at Wembley in 1991, is expected to take charge at the City Ground.
Albion visit Forest on the last day of the season.
