Crawley’s players have been warned their heroics against Wolves have made them a target.
Reds caused a stir throughout League One by ending the leaders’ ten-match unbeaten run in front of a record crowd at the Checkatrade.com Stadium on Tuesday.
It was the third time this season Crawley have shocked the team on top of the table and boss John Gregory believes the result will boost confidence as they look to finish the season strongly.
But Gregory is also aware there could be a flip-side to the eye-catching 2-1 success against Kenny Jackett’s pacesetters ahead of Crawley’s trip to struggling Oldham Athletic today.
He said: “It was a brilliant performance and hopefully we can use it as a springboard now. But when you achieve a result like that it brings added pressure with it as we have drawn attention to ourselves.
“The fact we have just beaten the leaders will certainly fire Oldham up and they will want to beat us even more now. We have suddenly we have become a target for other teams thanks to that result.
“Teams tend to raise their game against the likes of Wolves, Orient and Brentford and, although we are not at the top of the table like they are, beating a team like Wolves could have a similar effect.
“We good examples of how playing against a big team can inspire you as we tend to play better against the top teams but the shoe might be on the other foot now. I’m sure Oldham will want to give a little bit extra today so it will be another big test for us.
“But we have proved we can play against the best team and not only equal them but be better than them at times so those are the standards I expect in every single game now no matter who we are playing against.”
