John Gregory ranks Crawley’s famous victory over Wolves on Tuesday as one of the best nights of his career – but has warned his players it is history now.
The Reds claims the 2-1 win over the League One leaders Wolves gave him as much satisfaction as any of his victories against the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United during his time in charge at Aston Villa.
It was the second time Gregory has plotted an upset against a team on top of the table having won 3-2 at Leyton Orient in December. Reds followed that by going down 2-0 at home to MK Dons and Gregory is determined there will be no repeat at Oldham Athletic tomorrow.
Gregory said: “I’ve had a lot of good nights in my career but that ranks right up there with one of the best. I was on the ceiling in the dressing room afterwards I was so excited but I have got my feet firmly back on the ground now.
“At this stage of the season games are coming so thick and fast that you can only enjoy a result for a few hours and then you have to put it behind you and move on to the next game.
“It was very special but you can’t live on one victory. It is gone, finished, over and on Wednesday morning all I was thinking about was getting the team ready for Oldham because we need to go there and get another good result.”
