Guy Whittingham claimed a change of tactics was crucial to Crawley's 2-1 victory over Wolves at the Checkatrade.com Stadium tonight.

Reds switched from their usual 4-4-2 formation to 4-5-1 in an attempt to stifle Wolves' five-man midfield.

It worked a treat and although the visitors took the lead against the run of play James Henry Reds hit back through Billy Clarke and Matt Tubbs to seal a deserved victory.

First team coach Guy Whittingham said: "It was important to try to get on top of them and stop them playing.

"We played a slightly different system with Josh Simpson sitting behind and guarding against (Kevin) McDonald because he makes them tick.

"We knew they came playing good football so we had to try something to stop them and we did that so well it forced them to change their system after 35 minutes.

"It was a tremendous performance. The players deserve a lot of credit because they closed down and hassled Wolves and when they got the ball they played some good football too.

"I certainly think we deserved it. They didn't have a shot before they took the lead and you have to give credit for the players for the way they responded to falling behind.

"We expected Wolves to come at us in the second half but we defended superbly and still had chances to score ourselves on the break."
