Albion have Cardiff's Joe Mason on their radar as they weigh up their striker options.
The Seagulls are looking at Mason as a possible replacement for Ashley Barnes if he moves to Leeds or Burnley, The Argus can reveal.
Mason is in a similar situation at Cardiff to winger Craig Conway, who Albion want back on loan.
The 22-year-old bought from Plymouth for £250,000 in July 2011 helped the Welshmen to promotion from the Championship last season but has not featured for them in the Premier League.
Former Republic of Ireland under 21 international Mason has just returned from a loan spell with Bolton Wanderers.
The Seagulls would face competition to secure the £600,000-rated marksman from Championship rivals Bolton and others.
