Eastbourne hope to use The Argus Sussex Championship as a chance to run the rule over an emerging star.

Eagles boss Trevor Geer has revealed he has been contacted by riders hoping to feature in the individual event at Arlington on Sunday (3.30pm).

Geer is particularly interested in one of the hopefuls and could include him in the 12-man field.

All current team members, except injured Lukas Dryml, are set to ride along with Edward Kennett and Lewis Bridger.

Geer said: “There are young riders out there keen to put themselves in the shop window in this country and they are interested in racing on Sunday.

“There are riders worth looking at - one in particular.”

Eagles struck gold with young Danish racer Mikkel Michelsen this season and are keen to keep tabs on fresh talent at home and abroad.

Michelsen scored 11 points to help Denmark win the World Team Cup for under-21s as part of a successful weekend for Eagles riders.

Timo Lahti took top spot in the Golden Ribbon in the Czech Republic while Cameron Woodward successfully defended his British grasstrack title.
