Assistant manager Anthony Williams admitted Crawley rode their luck at times during the 1-0 home victory over Oldham Athletic.
Joe Walsh scored the only goal of the game after six minutes but former Reds striker Charlie MacDonald squandered two great chances to level by heading against the woodwork.
Crawley also had plenty of chances to wrap up the points with Emile Sinclair hitting a post and Latics goalkeeper Mark Oxley making a good save from Nicky Adams.
The result stretched Crawley's unbeaten run to five games and lifted them to eighth place in League One.
Williams said: "We rode our luck at times but we created enough chances to win the game. We could have conceded, yes, but we had by far the better chances.
"If we had got the second goal it would have killed off the game and the rest of the chances they created probably wouldn't have come.
"We probably played better football in the last two games but drew them so it is pleasing not to play as well and get the three points.
"It is all about winning games in different ways. They tried to stop us playing and it was hard for us to break them down at times but we dug in and got the win."
