Ipswich striker David McGoldrick struck twice to end Albion’s six-match unbeaten run.
His quickfire first-half double sent the Seagulls to a 2-0 defeat at Portman Road.
McGoldrick’s two strikes came in contrasting fashion.
The first had some luck about it as he saw his hopeful 20th minute drive from outside the box take a significant deflection to send it looping over Tomasz Kuszczak.
His second, four minutes later, was a classic as he fed off a header from strike partner Daryl Murphy and twisted away from Gordon Greer before flashing a low drive across Kuszczak and inside the far post.
It was tough for Albion to take, especially as they should have been ahead in only the sixth minute.
A slick move got Will Buckley to the byline but his cutback was poked wide from Andrew Crofts right in front of goal.
Albion never looked like getting back into the game in the second half, although they had strong penalty claims waved away when Tommy Smith seemed to use his arm to block a Buckley volley.
