Chances were few and far between but Tomasz Kuszczak made a pair of excellent saves.
The Polish keeper parried a Charlie Austin header from close range in the first half.
He then tipped a Joey Barton free-kick away from the top corner in the second period.
Albion also had to clear from their line in a goalmouth scramble.
Keith Andrews went closest for the Seagulls with a long-range blast which flicked off a defender and flew narrowly wide.
Stephen Ward limped off in the closing stages.
