Crawley missed out on a third successive victory in League One as they came from behind to earn a point at home to Shrewsbury.

Billy Clarke missed a penalty just before the interval and Reds found themselves behind early in the second half when Arron Wildig volleyed home.

Andy Drury headed Reds level in the 64th minute but they were denied a winner by a string of good saves from Shrewsbury goalkeeper Chris Weale.

The result saw them drop two places to ninth in League One with Shrewsbury climbing to 14th.

Crawley went into the game looking for their third win in a row but did not have it all their own way during the first half.

Shrewsbury got men forward quickly to support Cutis Main and Tom Bradshaw and tested Paul Jones on a number of occasions.

The visitors should have taken the lead after just seven minutes when Jones pushed out a drive from Jon Taylor and Bradshaw put the follow-up wide.

Jones also saved from Paul Parry and then Bradshaw in injury time while Luke Summerfield flashed a shot just wide from 25 yards.

Crawley struggled to create many opportunities of their own with Nicky Adams unable to make the most of their clearest opening when he shot across the face of goal after being played in by Jamie Proctor.

Reds were handed a great chance to take the lead three minutes before the interval when Proctor tangled with Darren Jones in the area and referee Gavin Ward pointed to the spot. Clarke’s penalty was too close to Chris Weale, however, and the Shrewsbury goalkeeper got down well to make the save.

Shrewsbury rubbed salt in the wounds by scoring within a minute of the restart. Ryan Woods swung over a low cross and Wildig got ahead of his marker to volley past Jones and inside the post.

The response from Crawley was encouraging as Weale was forced to make good saves from Clarke and Adams while Drury shot over from a good position.

The equaliser came in the 64th minute when Proctor flicked on a cross from Adams and Drury stooped to head home at the far post.

Both teams had chances to win it with Curtis Main heading over from six yards for Shrewsbury and Adams missing from a narrow angle when he should have crossed it.
