Albion are poised to add a striker to their squad later this month after rejecting increased bids for Liam Bridcutt and Ashley Barnes on the last day of the August transfer window.

The Seagulls gave short shrift again to arch-rivals Crystal Palace, who upped their offer from £1.75 million to £2 million in an attempt to take the Scotland international defensive midfielder to Selhurst Park.

Albion’s Championship rivals Nottingham Forest asked about Bridcutt as well but were told he was not for sale and did not pursue their interest any further.

Burnley also made second and third bids for Barnes yesterday morning, following up their first offer for the versatile striker last week. The last offer was a reported £500,000.

The answer they were given once more was a firm no as the window closed last night with head coach Oscar Garcia’s squad intact.

Albion had previously turned down a £5 million bid from Palace for prolific marksman Leo Ulloa.

The Argus understands Oscar will add to his injury-hit strike force once the loan window opens next week.

The timing of the deal is likely to be linked to Albion exploiting the maximum 93-day loan permitted ahead of their next match at Reading on Sunday September 15.

There will be a flurry of signings at The Amex today – of official club merchandise by Oscar, assistant Nathan Jones plus recent captures Kemy Agustien, Keith Andrews and Stephen Ward (2-3pm).
