So what now for Albion and their boss Gus Poyet?
Was last night’s play-off defeat the end of an era? Or is fourth place in the Championship just the latest chapter of their success story?
Poyet suggested last night that he wanted assurances from chairman Tony Bloom over financial backing for another promotion push.
He said: “I’m going to ask if we’ve hit the roof and to that I need answers and then we’ll see.”
So has Poyet reached the end of the road with the Seagulls? And what about the squad he has built?
What do you expect and hope to see happen at The Amex this summer as Albion reflect on their best season in more than two decades– and their most disappointing night for years?
The debate is under way.
