Deborah Barber, Director of the South of England Agricultural Society, said: “The Spring Garden & Leisure Show is our first big show of the year and it’s a great opportunity to find inspiration for the garden and enjoy a relaxing day out at the same.”

“The show goes from strength to strength and its many attractions ensure a wide appeal for all the family, not just the green-fingered among us.”

Gardens

Gardeners can shake off winter blues and stock up on gorgeous spring bedding plants and long-lasting shrubs. While an abundance of trade stands offer everything you need to turn garden chores into a pleasure and make your outdoor space as stylish and functional as the indoors. From mowers, chippers and barbies to loungers, trugs and gardeners’ gear there’s something for everyone at every level of expertise.

And for anyone who has ever asked ‘how does your garden grow?’ the expert panel of the English Garden Road Show will be back by popular demand. Bugged by bugs or thwarted by thorns? The team will be able to resolve those unanswered questions and share their take on inspirational gardening and tales of success.

Animals

Entries are at an all time high for the Llama and Alpaca Show, the largest in Europe, with record entries this year. Demonstrations of spinning and displays of clothing made from llama and alpaca fleece give a greater insight into the world of these fascinating and unusual creatures.

More than 800 dogs – from tiny Pomeranians to rugged Bernese Mountain Dogs – will be taking part in the Dog Show, which is a qualifier for Crufts and attracts top breeders from across the region.

New Farmer’s Market

Visitors can come on down and fill their baskets at the new Farmer’s Market. Where better to sample and savour all that’s best from local producers than at the county’s favourite showground? Fresh and appealing goodies will range from dairy cow, goat and sheep cheeses, chutneys, preserves and vinegars to breads, wines, beers, and meads. Local meats will share the space with fruit and flowers and delicious pies & pasties will mingle with the chilli products for a spicy addition to Sussex.

Something For Everyone

It’s not just gardens that get the green treatment at The Big Recycling Bus. This innovative idea is a fun education resource aimed at increasing environmental awareness regarding waste and recycling issues. It promotes the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, composting and waste prevention. The size and design of the bus attracts attention wherever it goes and appeal to children and adults alike.

Robin Hood and Maid Marion wannabes get try their hand at archery with the Longbow archers from the Grey Goosewing Medieval Archery Display team. While the Kausary Peruvian Band will perform the pulsating sights and sounds of South America with traditional music and dance.

The food hall will be flooded with delicious aromas and tempting tastes where the public has a rare opportunity to meet the producers that grow and make our wonderful selection of British food. This connection with what we eat promotes a real sense of ownership in our local food supply and inspires us all to have a go with the veggie patch!
