The winner of The SusseX Factor has been revealed.
Brett Mendoza has stolen the crown as the county’s Christmas singing sensation for 2010.
Voting opened on Tuesday and last night the lines closed and the results can now be revealed.
With almost a third of the vote Mr Mendoza, 30, of Nevill Avenue, Hove, is basking in the glory of being named Sussex’s Matt Cardle.
His song, A Brighton Beautiful Christmas, involved 50 other people, including staff at the Duke of Wellington pub, The Argus Appeal’s Santa Claus, Albion cheerleaders and Brett’s girlfriend Katie Major, 25, singing snippets of Slade’s Merry Christmas Everybody.
The video, the first he has ever made, was shot in various spots around the city including the beach and the Pavilion ice rink.
Brett won 28.99% of the vote (also with a little help from his friends) just ahead of Matt Whistler, 38, with 23.4%.
In third place were duo The Marzipan Soldiers, from Lewes Road, Brighton, with 21.77%, fourth was ten-year-old Bert Atkinson with his seven-year-old brother Stan with their song Ringing Out The Bells.
SusseX Factor is now closed until Christmas 2011.
Here are the contenders:
Simon Carol
David Beckham lookalike Andy Harmer is also making a bid to knock Simon Cowell off the number one spot with his song Simon Carol.
Eastbourne's Andy Harmer, 31, appears in Simon Carol, along with a host of other celebrity lookalikes to have a "cheeky dig" at Cowell's monopoly on the Christmas charts.
Daryl Markham
This SusseX Factor contestant appeared on the actual X Factor in 2009.
Seaford's Daryl Markham has produced Why Can't it Be Christmas All the Time.
It is available on iTunes with 79p from each sale going to Children in Need.
Matt Whistler
Stand-up comedian Matt Whistler, 38, and his scantily clad Surfin' Bird has also produced a Christmas song.
In the music video he walks around Brighton doing a chicken impression in a festive "mankini" startling passers by while warbling that "bird is the word".
Marzipan Soldiers
Flatmates Tim Lumbair, 25, and Ben Tucker, 23, otherwise known as the Marzipan Soldiers are hoping to steal the show with their home-made ditty Good News.
Their ambitious video, filmed in their house off the Lewes Road, Brighton, involves spoon playing, reindeers and Santa as an Aerosmith-style rocker.
Tim said: "It is supposed to be an epic Christmas song covering the original meaning of Christmas as well as all the clich that are now attached to it.
There are loads of different instruments involved including guitars, organs, spoons, drums and keyboards."
Donations will go to the Sussex charity Bevern View which helps young people with learning difficulties.
Bert and Stan
Making a welcome return after their World Cup song Bring it Home to England are ten-year-old Bert Atkinson and his seven-year-old brother Stan.
The pint-size singers have returned to their living room stage with their new song Ring out the Bells.
The pair, of Waldegrave Road, Brighton, celebrate Christmas in the song and sing of optimism and "the good times yet to come".
The tune was such a success at Stan's school, Downs Infant School in Ditchling Road, Brighton, that the music teacher taught it to the Year 2 choir and it was sung at the Brighton Pavilion ice rink earlier this month.
Fish Brothers
Brighton band The Fish Brothers, headed by Martin Cooper, have recorded a festive song, Christmas is Coming. The raucous band are legendary in the city for their Fishmas parties and hope their hit, which has a chorus of youngsters in the background, will have what it takes to make it to number one.
Brett Mendoza
The most recent additions to the line up include Brett Mendoza from Nevill Road, Hove, with his Friends of Mendoza. The collaboration includes dozens of Brett's friends in various locations around Brighton, including down on the beach and circling round the Pavilion ice rink. It also has contributions from staff at the Duke of Wellington pub, Mr Mendoza's mum and dad and his girlfriend Kate.
Christopher Dennis
Christopher Dennis, 26, from Patcham, is hoping his Christmas Sandwich entry will prove a hit.
The ditty has already gained a strong web following and is a rousing, original, yuletide singsong.
Mr Dennis says it "encapsulates the warm feeling of a family feast".
He recorded the song in his home and persuaded a friend to help him make the music video in a farmhouse with a total budget of £350.
Bob Vernon Ward
Another hopeful is the frontman from the Rolling Stones tribute band, The Railing Stains.
Bob Vernon Ward and his wife Hayley have recorded a song called Make Me An Offer.
The Brighton couple are dedicated fans of the Rolling Stones and wanted to bring a bit of rock n roll to SusseX Factor.
Benji Boko
Brighton DJ 24-year-old Benji Boko has run Christmas through the decks with this 'Very Christmassy Remix Tape' including Miss Piggy singing Santa Baby at seven minutes.
