World Cup pundit Nadia Nadim had to suddenly go off air during a match after being told that her mother had been killed.

The 34-year-old plays as a striker for Denmark's national team and is currently in Qatar working for ITV.

The Sun reports that she was part of ITV's panel for the coverage of Denmark’s goalless draw with Tunisia on Tuesday (November 22) but had to leave suddenly after hearing the news.

Viewers had noticed that she was not in the studio after the game had concluded.

In a post on her Instagram Nadia stated that her mother had been killed after being hit by a truck on her way back home from the gym.

The post from Nadia said: "Tuesday morning my Mother was killed by a truck. She was on her way back from the gym.

"Words can not describe what I’m feeling. I have lost the most important person in my life and it happened so sudden and unexpected. She was only 57. She was a warrior who had fought for every inch of her life. She didn’t give me life once but twice, and everything I/ we are is because of her.

"I have lost my home and I know nothings gonna ever feel the same. Life is unfair and I don’t understand why her and why this way. I love you and I will see you again

"Her funeral is gonna be soon, (more information to follow)Please come and show her the love , respect and prayers she deserves"
