Tennis champion Johanna Konta has pulled out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after contracting Covid-19.
The East Sussex local previously withdrew from Wimbledon due to a team member testing positive for the virus, she was forced to isolate after close contact.
Konta said she developed symptoms before testing positive and has been unable to train for the past two and a half weeks so feels unprepared for the Games.
She previously won the Nottingham Open in the build up to Wimbledon 2021 but has only been able to compete in 15 matches this year due to injury and Covid related constraints.
The player took to social media to voice her disappointment: "This is a heartbreaking reality for me, as representing Team GB at the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 was one of my most treasured memories from my career."
She added that she will be taking this time to get back to full health and fitness so she is ready to compete again soon.
