Winner: Stuart Townsend

SINCE taking up the post of head of PE at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA) in 2012, Stuart Townsend has transformed the department and has already received an award for Sports PE Teacher of the Year from Brighton and Hove Council.

As a previous pupil of Falmer High School, Stuart has returned to his roots, providing a very positive role model for current students.

Stuart said: “It’s a bit of a whirlwind really.

“As an ex-pupil of the school I always wanted to go back to my roots.

“I had a good time at school, I had some amazing teachers and I just wanted to give something back - I’m now there living the dream.

“I really do enjoy it, I work with some amazing people, the PE team are fantastic and I couldn’t do it without them and the support from all the guys at the school as well as the amazing children.

“At the end of the day, if they’re enjoying what we’re doing then we’re doing the right thing.”
