An appeal is under way to identify a group of people who stole several fire extinguishers and let them off.

A “group of young males and one female” were reported to have climbed over a fence behind Horsham Fire Station.

The fire station is closing for good on May 27 to make way for a new one.

The alleged theft happened at the fire station at around 6pm on Friday.

Horsham Fire Station is next to Horsham Police Station which closes at 4pm on a Friday.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police are appealing for witnesses following a report of theft and criminal damage at Horsham Fire Station.

“After climbing over a fence into the rear of the property, a group of young males and one female are reported to have stolen multiple fire extinguishers. The group climbed back over the fence and let the extinguishers off.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and officers would like to speak to anybody who saw the incident or events leading up to it.
