Controlled parking zone begins today (Sept 1st) in Canning Street and a one-way system westerly starts as soon as the road signs are put in place.
All residents in Canning Street have been informed and how to get parking permits. None of the residents in the adjoining streets have been informed recently that CP Zone H will be extended in this way. Nor that it will be “No Entry” from Sutherland Road and one-way only from the junction of Walpole Terrace/ College Terrace.
Cyclists are exempt from the one-way restriction. It is understood there will be one-week delay before parking enforcement actually kicks-in.
There is concern that this new parking regime will create more congestion on the streets of Bakers Bottom: the adjoining Hendon, Bute and Rochester streets. Residents there have consistently refused to sign up to any CPZ for many reasons including that there has been no proper consultation as to which Zone the residents could be allocated. Bakers Bottom sits at the corner of three other zones: Zones C, U and H.
