MY WIFE and I were disappointed to hear the 81 bus route serving Brighton and Hove may cease running an evening service in September despite a vigorous campaign to save it being axed.

The 81 bus is the only route that serves the area in which we live. The fact it could stop running in the evening will cause difficulties, not only for us but for other people who use it regularly and for whom it is a lifeline.

Bearing in mind the amount of money recently spent on providing a new cycle lane along both sides of Old Shoreham Road, and which seems to be little used, the axing of an existing service seems most unfair.

The closest running service will be the 5B, which would involve a 30-minute walk in each direction.

I hope this matter will be brought up again for reconsideration at the council meeting on July 19 as a priority.
