A council has said that it won’t give councillors preferential treatment to see the town’s Olympic torch event.
Hastings Borough Council has announced that it will not be giving out any of the tickets to the event in the Stade Open Space in Hastings Old Town, on Tuesday, July 17, unless members applied for them with everyone else.
The announcement came in response to Brighton and Hove City Council’s decision to offer four free tickets to every one of its 54 councillors for its music event at the County Ground in Hove.
A council spokesman said: “Because space is extremely limited and we want as many local residents to see the show as possible, there is no Hastings Borough Council guest list.
“Apart from the mayor, deputy mayor and council leader, who are each appearing on stage, there are no tickets for councillors or anybody else.”
The deadline for Hastings residents applying for the event by post has now expired.
Lucky recipients are set to receive their tickets soon.
