I WAS most interested to see a picture of a Brighton tram car from the 1930s and the subsequent views from several readers (Letters, May 23 and 26, and June 2).
It may interest your readers to know that the last Brighton tram car, number 53, from 1936, is still in existence and is being restored in Sussex.
Tram 53 Society aims to have her running one day!
Wouldn’t it be great if some track was relaid in Brighton, so visitors could enjoy a trip on one of these cars?
They were originally built at the Lewes Road Depot – Tram 53 will be a worthy example of local craftsmanship.
If you go to the website www.brightontram53.org.uk, there is a lot more information and many photographs.
