Passengers are pictured aboard a miniature tram in Eastbourne on a sunny day in 1964. But the venture was in decline by this time and the trams were taken to Seaton in Devon where they still run.
The tramway opened in 1955 and was a success until the council wanted some of the land for new roads.
This picture by Mick Funnell is from East Sussex Coastal Railways: Volume 2 – Branch Lines And Other Railways by Paul O’Callaghan (SB Publications £7.99). Proceeds from the book will go towards a campaign for a health centre for the medically neglected.
Details are available from Paul O’Callaghan at 1 Granville Road, Eastbourne BN20 7EB.
