Emergency services were called after a gas cylinder used to power a car started to leak.
Fire crews were at the scene outside a house in Ginhams Road, Crawley, for more than four hours last night as they worked out how to tackle the fuel spill coming from an LPG cylinder.
A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “They had to call call on specialists from other agencies to find the best way to deal with it.
"It was a bit different to handling the more common type of petrol spill."
