A man was seriously assaulted in a street attack.
The incident took place at 9.55pm in Queens Road, Hastings.
A 52-year-old local man was walking in the road when he was seen to fall to the ground outside the News and Wine shop, opposite Pizza Express.
He was taken to the Conquest Hospital with a serious head injury, and is still receiving treatment but his injuries are not life threatening. Police believe he may have been attacked by a white man, in his late teens to early 20s, about 6ft tall, stocky but not overweight, with cut short mousey brown coloured hair, wearing blue jeans and a white polo shirt. He appeared to have been with two other men.
Detective Constable Ian Dearling said: “It is not yet clear exactly what happened or why and the victim is unable to help us a great deal at the moment.
“However witnesses describe an assault, and we are keen to hear from more people who may have seen the incident.
“In particular we know there were several customers in the shop at the time, and in addition a man and woman in a maroon car stopped briefly at the scene just after the incident, but we have no details of them.”
Call Sussex Police on 101.
