YOUR splendid photograph of Brighton tram 75 (Letters, May 23, pictured below) was taken in Grand Parade, Brighton.
It is heading towards the Old Steine and is at the bottom of Church Street. The background appears unchanged to this day.
Letter writer Dave Bridge from California hits the nail on the head with his remarks about the resurgence of the use of electric transport (trams and trolleybuses) throughout the developed world.
If Brighton and Hove City Council is so concerned with the air quality along the Lewes Road corridor, it should make a further application to the Department for Transport for Green Bus funding to string up trolley bus overhead wiring.
This could run between Palmeira Square, Churchill Square and Old Steine, before running up to the universities near Falmer. Brighton and Hove Bus Company could convert its 25 route to single-deck articulated trolley buses, rather than second-hand Mercedes-Benz diesel buses from London.
