A teenager lost his fight for life after falling 70ft from a rooftop – but has helped to save the lives of six other people.

The 19-year-old, named locally as Brighton chef Matt Anderson, died in hospital on Tuesday night (May 15) after plunging five storeys from the roof of his home on Sunday, May 13.

Yesterday (May 16) Matt’s friends told The Argus his organs were donated to people in need.

Karl Jones, Matt’s boss at Moshi Moshi, explained how Matt’s parents, who live in New Zealand, had flown to Britain in time to say goodbye to their beloved boy before he passed away.

He said: “His organs were donated. They were given to six people.

“Matt was fabulous.

“He was a great, gangly guy.

“We have a very young team at Moshi Moshi and everyone is very upset.

“It is heartbreaking.”

Friends and family remembered Matt at the restaurant in Bartholomew Square yesterday.

On Facebook people paid tribute to him, saying how much they loved him.

Andrew Marcantonio said: “Rest in peace Matt Anderson. I only knew you for four months but that was long enough to know what a genuinely nice guy you were.

“You will be sorely missed. It was a pleasure to know you and to count you as a friend.”

Kyle Partridge said: “While we are mourning the loss of our friend, others are rejoicing to meet him behind the veil. Matt Anderson you will be missed severely.”

Scotty Squire said: “Way too young to be gone.”

A woman added: “Matt Anderson, words can’t describe how much you’ll be missed.”

In a statement Moshi Moshi said: “He will be sorely missed by all the chefs he so enjoyed working with who all became good friends with Matt.

“As a team we are all devastated by the events, and thank everyone for the kind words offered to his family from New Zealand and his Moshi Moshi family.”

Matt had been in a critical condition at the Royal Sussex County Hospital since 3.30pm on Sunday when he plunged from the roof of Marine House, Broad Street, Brighton, where he lived.

Police said it was believed that Matt went out on a flat roof via a skylight for a cigarette and slipped.
