A popular zombie festival could be dead in the water if it cannot raise funds urgently.

Beach of the Dead sees hundreds of people dress as the undead and walk around Brighton.

The event is now in its sixth year but its future looks in doubt as its popularity has pushed up stewarding costs.

Beach of the Dead organiser Kate Amer said the event had become a victim of its own success.

A council spokeswoman said officials had asked for extra stewards to help people move safely through the city.

Miss Amer said an increase in stewarding, medical and welfare support and event insurance has pushed the bill up to about £2,000.

The event is free apart from an after-party at Concorde 2 and has no corporate sponsorship so relies on donations from the public.

Those wanting to keep the event running are being asked to donate to the cause.

Beach of the Dead’s Facebook page has more than 2,000 fans and if they each donate £1 the event can continue.
