A vetinary practice has installed a CT scanner for animals.

The scanner at New Priory Vets in The Deneway, Brighton, is designed for human use, but will also be used for dogs and cats and can be even used on smaller animals including rabbits.

CT scanners have transformed human medicine by allowing doctors to capture images of internal organs, including 3D images that would be impossible to obtain using traditional X-ray machines. This has transformed the diagnosis of conditions including cancers and lung disease, allowing much earlier treatment.

The use of CT machines in animal medicine is still relatively rare.

The veterinary practice will unveil the new facility at their open day on June 2 from 9am-1pm.
