THERE has been a lot of talk lately about the cost of parking across Brighton and Hove, and the perceived desire of the Green Party to keep cars out of the city.

Well my car is in, and has to suffer the continual degradation of roads in Hove. I’m referring mainly to Portland Road, Church Road and Blatchington Road, as well as parts of Old Shoreham Road. When using them, it’s a bit like going off road – except I don’t have a 4x4.

I do not recall Portland Road having a serious makeover in my 65 years of existence.

I was born and bred in Hove and it only ever seems to have been done in patches – just check out the stretch between Portslade Station and Olive Road.

I live in Goldstone Villas, where some work has been done in the past 12 months. That was nice, but there is so much more to do.

Is there a cunning plan to do as little as possible?

Ask bus and taxi drivers what they think. They seem to be getting work actioned in North Street, Brighton.

My guess is that, as usual, there is no money. Perhaps between us we can fire up a campaign.
