Eastbourne Eagles riders, management and fans are in shock this evening after hearing of the death of their former captain.
Speedway rider Lee Richardson was killed racing for his Polish track Rzeszow this afternoon.
The Hastings-based rider, 33, led Eagles to their last major honour - the 2008 Elite League Knockout Cup.
Trevor Geer, team manager of Eagles and a close family friend of the Richardsons, said: "He was such a nice guy, a real family man and a very good rider."
