This is the beach used for many years by hardy members of Brighton Swimming Club, founded in 1860 and Britain’s oldest.
Now archivists have collected photographs, leaflets and oral contributions from members over the years. They have taken many months to compile.
The project called Floating Memories will soon be on display at the fishing museum on the Lower Esplanade.
Funded by the Heritage Lottery, it includes daring rescues, beach parties and the annual Christmas Day swim that still attracts big crowds on fine mornings to the beach near the Palace Pier.
