Police are at the scene of a serious assault.
The man was injured at a flat at the Vogue Gyratory in Lewes Road Brighton this evening.
The victim has been taken to hospital but was too badly hurt to tell police what had happened.
One of his friends is believed to have raised the alarm.
Scenes of crime officers are currently collecting evidence and photographing blood at the scene, which has been cordoned off since about 7pm.
Detective Sergeant Leon Ryan of Brighton and Hove CID said officers were in the very early stages of trying to piece together what had happened.
He added: "There has been a serious assault. His injuries are serious but it is too early to tell exactly how bad he has been hurt or whether a weapon was used."
