Ever wanted to walk straight into your favourite novel?
Well, now you can thanks to the hard work of Brighton City College and University of Brighton students.
With the help Downton Abbey set carpenter and production artist Anna Deamer the group have created scenes from Patrick Hamilton’s classic novel Hangover Square.
As part of the Brighton Festival, the team have made two linked interiors to mark the 50-year anniversary of the Sussex author’s death.
One half of the exhibition is a smart Brighton hotel room and the other a seedy London flat – where the book’s climactic crime scene is re-imagined.
On visiting the project, Brighton and Hove City Council leader Bill Randall, praised the students describing City College as “one of the jewels in Brighton and Hove’s crown.”
College student Liam Coleman said: “Having been a part of the project right at the beginning and to build it up slowly in layers and then to come in and see all the fine detail of what Anna’s done with the set design and the various props in the rooms is amazing.”
Steve Deane, who worked on the Downton Abbey set, said: "I was very impressed by the students’ inquisitiveness, enthusiasm and dedication.
“I must also say how privileged the project is to have a group of people willing to give up their own free time, outside study, to learn and work together for the purpose of the exhibition."
Hangover Square will be at the University of Brighton Gallery until May 27.
