MY VOTE for the ugliest building in Sussex goes to that eyesore called the Newhaven Incinerator.
Not only is it ugly, looking like a giant glass mushroom, it has two large chimneystacks reaching into the sky, belching out smoke 24-7.
It is polluting the environment and stinks of rotting garbage.
No one I’ve spoken to expected it to be that big and chuck out so much smoke.
Paul-John Harris, Glynde Close, Newhaven
WE HAVE Brighton and Hove Albion’s American Express Community Stadium settled like an incongruous flying saucer on the South Downs; we have the huge Newhaven incinerator rising from the river plain like an ugly Ely Cathedral and perhaps, before long, we may have the visual blight of wind farms on the horizon out at sea.
The South Downs is losing out, it seems.
Nicholas Dunn-Coleman, The Droveway, Hove
I WOULD have to go for the Holiday Inn along Brighton seafront, especially when one remembers what it replaced – the Bedford Hotel.
On a positive note, Sussex has many fine buildings, some stretching back over centuries.
Ian Steedman, St George’s Road, Worthing
THE worst building in Sussex? I couldn’t be sure about that.
But the worst building in Brighton? Well, that’s an easy one: the building on the seafront housing the Odeon cinema – no contest there.
John Blake, Ditchling Road, Brighton
